PR – TE 64 Fluvial path along the Guadalope river

The Guadalope River is the most important river in the Maestrazgo region, a river that determines a large part of the landscape of the territory. Its source is located a few kilometers from Villarroya de los Pinares and with this route you can visit its upper section.

It is a very comfortable route that goes up the upper stretch of the Guadalope River little by little. From Villarroya square, take the path heading south, next to the Casa Peña palace. A paved road begins immediately, which soon turns into a forest road. The route coincides with the route Nº 13 of the Maestrazgo MTB Center. The route follows the Guadalope riverbed, under the monumental headwater poplars. A small stretch of trail, between stone walls, continues along the right bank. Use extreme caution at successive river crossings. At the Casa Alegre farmhouse, the trail returns to the forest track and leaves the Guadalope in the direction of the ruined hermitage of San Bartolomé (120m from the road). Finally, you pass by a beautiful stone peiron and cross Casa Cuti and Mas de la Boneta. From the Casa Clavero farmhouse we descend again to the river and pass by a fountain and water pond until we ascend to the Nacimiento del Guadalope (1,550 m.a.s.l.).

Villarroya has a great deal of natural and cultural heritage to offer. If you want to know more, click on the following link.
