Esparto de la Cuba Center

The Esparto Interpretation Center is located at La Cubasince it is in this locality where this craft was developed. The municipality has 700 hectares, a circumstance that may have made it easier for many of the population not to have land to work, dedicating themselves to this task. The work of esparto occupied a large part of the population from the late seventeenth century to the mid-twentieth century. The raw material, esparto was brought from Hellín and Albacete, and it was worked in almost all the houses of the town.

At the interpretation center describes where the raw material came from, how it was worked, who made it and what esparto grass has meant for La Cuba. The center aims to remember the importance of esparto grass for many families in the Maestrazgo region. This is done with a journey through time where, through a series of keys, to relate history, economy and landscape.

The interpretation system chosen is that of “audiomontage”. The spectator is greeted by a voice-over that, synchronized with a system of lights, images, etc., will guide the spectator through the center and explain the history of La Cuba and esparto grass.

Currently, the Interpretation Center shares the space with the recr eation of the old school of La Cuba.
