Montesanto Convent

The Montesanto Convent was founded by the nun of Villarluengo, María Balfagón in 1540 under the protection of Ntra. Sra. de Monte Santo. This locality made procession to the Sanctuary three times a year. The first was on San José’s Day, the second on the first Tuesday in May, a day on which alms were distributed in memory of the fact that people used to go to the hermitage of St. Joseph on that day. Ntra. Sra. De la Carrasca in Bordón or de la Zarza in Aliaga, and third on the day of San Pedro, in memory that Villarluengo used to make a procession to the hermitage of this Saint in Montoro de Mezquita.
