Today we bring you a Did you know that…? about the villages of the Maestrazgo region with some facts and curiosities that maybe you didn’t know. Let’s get to know them! <\/p>\n\n

The Maestrazgo region comprises a total of 22 population entities: fifteen municipalities, one minor local entity and six districts. Its capital is Cantavieja. <\/p>\n\n

2. In 2022, the village with the most inhabitants was Cantavieja<\/a><\/strong> with a total of 707. Miravete de la Sierra <\/a>is the least populated<\/strong> with only 27 inhabitants. In total, the region has around 3,200 inhabitants. <\/p>\n\n

3. Regarding sea level, Allepuz <\/a>is the highest village in the region<\/strong>, located at 1,424 meters above sea level, followed very closely, with only 2 meters difference, by Ca\u00f1ada de Benatanduz. Castellote<\/a><\/strong>Castellote, at 804 meters above sea level, is the lowest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

4. Stacking one on top of the others, we would achieve a height of more than 17,000 meters above sea level.<\/p>\n\n

5. Castellote<\/a><\/strong>Castellote, the village with the lowest altitude in the region, is the largest in terms of surface area<\/strong>, occupying 235.18 km2<\/sup>, and includes the territory of its six districts and a smaller local entity, Las Cuevas de Ca\u00f1art. La Cuba<\/a> is the smallest<\/strong>, with 6.51 km2of <\/sup>extension.<\/p>\n\n

6. If we fit the villages together, the total area would be more than 1,204 km2<\/sup>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

7. Las Cuevas de Ca\u00f1art<\/strong> <\/a>is the only minor local entity in the province of Teruel<\/strong>, but Arag\u00f3n has a total of 43, 39 in Huesca and 3 in Zaragoza. These entities have full legal personality and capacity to exercise the powers recognized by law. <\/p>\n\n

8. Of the 16 villages, 8 of them have been declared Historic-Artistic Ensemble<\/strong>, due to the stupendous conservation of their old quarters. The monumental wealth of the Maestrazgo is evident. <\/p>\n\n

9. In the region we find two of the most beautiful villages in Spain<\/strong>, Cantavieja<\/a> and Mirambel<\/a>, and two magical villages<\/strong>, La Iglesuela del Cid <\/a>and Fortanete<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

10. The region has four areas declared Natural Monuments<\/strong> <\/a>of the six in Arag\u00f3n: Grutas de Cristal, Nacimiento del r\u00edo Pitarque, \u00d3rganos de Montoro and Puente Natural de Fonseca. The other two are the Pyrenean Glaciers and the Mallos de Riglos, Ag\u00fcero and Pe\u00f1a Rueba. <\/p>\n\n
