Following this diagnosis, a series of recommendations are drawn up that include all those improvements that the destination must make in the areas of action (governance, innovation, technology, sustainability and accessibility) linked to each area of competence, in order to be recognized as an Intelligent Tourism Destination.

Betting on a development model based on the methodology of Smart Tourist Destinations will bring a multitude of benefits for all the actors that make up the tourism system of theMaestrazgo county destination, the managing body of the destination, for the entire business network and, by extension, for the whole of the resident society and the tourist himself. These benefits include:

– Leadership in destination transformation with a powerful demonstration effect.
– Creation of synergies and efficient use of resources.
– Improvement of the cooperative culture and local tourism policy to improve the governance of the region.
– Improved positioning of the region thanks to the development of a pioneering project worldwide.
– Generation of an innovative culture both in the administration and in the local business fabric.
– Increased tourism competitiveness.
– Improving the overall tourism experience.
– Intelligent Tourism Destination Program.

The Intelligent Tourism Destination program is a project promoted by the Secretariat of State for Tourism (SETUR) and managed by SEGITTUR, which seeks to contribute to improving the competitiveness of tourist destinations and the quality of life of their residents by focusing on five areas of action: governance, innovation, technology, sustainability and accessibility.

The Smart Tourist Destination is defined as an innovative tourist destination, consolidated on a state-of-the-art technological infrastructure, which guarantees the sustainable development of the tourist territory, accessible to all, facilitating the interaction and integration of the visitor with the environment and increasing the quality of his experience in the destination and improving the quality of life of the resident.

To achieve these objectives, the DTI program promotes the implementation of a management model that takes into account the transversality of the tourism activity and the differentiating characteristics of each destination. It is articulated on a diagnostic methodology, based on 97 requirements and 261 indicators, which results in a system of recommendations and a monitoring system, which form the fundamental elements of the model, allowing a process of continuous improvement of destination management adapted to the present and future challenges of tourism.

The Maestrazgo Region decided to join the Intelligent Tourist Destination (ITD) system with the conviction that this model represents an important step forward in the development of the region. strategic opportunity to reinforce a balanced and sustainable tourism development, adapted to the particularities of our rural territory. Joining the program will allow the Shire to move towards a more efficient, innovative and coordinated management, aligned with the sector’s current challenges. The regional institution expects that this process will directly benefit both residents -improving their quality of life, services and the sustainability of the territory- and visitors, offering a more accessible, organized and enriching tourist experience, based on the responsible use of our natural, heritage and cultural resources.

The ITD model developed by Spain is a national and international reference recognized as a best practice by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the European Commission, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Likewise, the DTI initiative is part of the Spanish Urban Agenda 2019.

<div class="wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493
