Night routes

If you have never done a night route you may think that it is crazy, that it could even be dangerous to throw yourself into the darkness of the night, but nothing could be further from the truth.

In summer, going out at night is a great alternative to the sweltering heat we have during the day, so take advantage of it.

Tips and equipment for night hiking

  • Carry a headlamp or flashlight.

  • Increase your visibility.

Wear a red light like the ones on bicycles and reflective clothing, this will be enough to increase your safety.

  • Be clear about the route.

Look at the route more than usual and even take a sketch or map with you.

  • Bring some extra clothing.

Whenever the sun goes down, the temperature drops rapidly. An extra windbreaker or fleece will be enough to avoid coming home with distemper.

  • Be aware of wildlife.

This is the time of day when many animals take advantage of the opportunity to hunt, move around and gather. Avoid making too much noise and above all, if you meet them, avoid scaring them and, of course, feeding them.

  • Material for nocturnal routes:

    - Headlamp instead of flashlight. Having a headlamp allows you to keep your hands free and direct the light where your eyes want to look with a single movement.
    - Trekking poles. Their main use is to help us save energy on long treks. But they are also highly recommended in this type of outings, as they will give us security in areas that we do not see well or that are full of loose rock or roots.
    - GPS watch. If you like orienteering and want to avoid taking out the map all the time, a gps watch assures you, in addition to many other functions, to follow a route already marked, consult the maps and of course the use of the compass.

With these tips and all the necessary equipment for night hiking, you can go out and discover any mountain in this very different and attractive region.
