Water Blackbird

Cinclus cinclus

Bioindicator of good water quality. It feeds on aquatic macroinvertebrates, some fish and small amphibians. It dives into the water to capture them. It has a waterproof and dense plumage. Its wings function as fins. A nictitating membrane acts as a third eyelid and its compact body and strong legs allow it to walk on the bed.
