Tips for stargazing
To enjoy stargazing, keep these tips in mind:
- Opt for very early new or crescent moon nights to maximize visibility of the stars and the Milky Way.
- Escape from the urban centers. In the Maestrazgo region you will find different points and viewpoints for stargazing as it is an area of high altitudes with clear vision.
- The observation can take a while and the nights of Maestrazgo can be cool. It is essential to bring warm clothes, a chair and a flashlight with a red filter to preserve the night view.
- You can enjoy them with the naked eye or take a telescope.
Starlight Accommodations

Star shower
Throughout the year, the phenomenon of star showers, one of the most fascinating astronomical phenomena, occurs several times. Although they arepopularly called“meteor showers”, they are actually meteors. The luminous flash that we observe in the sky occurs when a meteoroid (a fragment of matter left by a comet or an asteroid) penetrates the Earth’s atmosphere at high speed.
Throughout the year there are many meteor showers, some with many meteors per hour and others with fewer.
This year it will be visible between July 17 and August 24, but the peak will occur on August 12, when up to 200 meteors per hour can be seen. Unfortunately, this year the proximity of the full moon (which will be on August 9) will impair the visibility of the Perseids.
*You can see the dates of this year’s other meteor showers here.
Total solar eclipse in 2026
Teruel is already preparing for the first total solar eclipse visible from the Iberian Peninsula in more than a century.
It will take place at sunset on Wednesday , August 12, 2026, at about 20:30, with a duration of 1 minute 34 seconds. This will require observing the eclipse from a place with good visibility to the west. As it happens in summer, the chances of having a clear sky are high in a large part of the country. We will provide more information throughout the coming year.
Other eclipses in 2027 and 2028
The years 2026, 2027 and 2028 will be important years for astro-tourism, since unprecedented astronomical events will take place in our country. In 2027 there will be an eclipse of similar characteristics to that of 2026 and in 2028 an annular eclipse. The province of Teruel is within the area where the eclipse of 2026 will be most likely to be experienced.
