Lengua de vaca

Hydnum albidum Peck. (1887)

Very characteristic whitish mushroom, with its hymenophore covered by stingers or barbs that are easily detachable from the flesh. It is usually found in autumn and winter forming dense semi-buried groups, associated with both pine forests and quecines. It is good edible, although little known. It could be confused with the genus Hydnellum, very common in pine forests, also have stingers, in this case, not separable. Their leathery texture deprives them of culinary interest.
