A deposit
of imprisoned officers

A prisoner officer depot

The dynamics of the war involved all the towns of Maestrazgo, including small villages such as La Cuba. The proximity of this population to the main rebel nuclei meant that during the conflict it followed the same rhythms and the same fate as the rebels. Very early on, a Carlist town council was appointed to obey the orders coming from Cantavieja. The economic demands were constant and very high. Among the missions entrusted to him was the maintenance of a depot of imprisoned liberal officers. The town was also part of a second line of defense of the Carlist territory.

Supplies

In the early days of the war, the villages of Maestrazgo were victims of the arbitrariness and violence of many of the Carlist leaders.

When the territories of Maestrazgo came under Carlist control, the economic pressure on the population did not disappear.

The continued control over the territory offered the Carlists the opportunity to establish military infrastructures in Maestrazgo from 1836 onwards.

As the Carlist presence in Maestrazgo became institutionalized, the rebels had to set up a collection system that would allow them to gather the necessary supplies to feed an ever-growing army.
