Molinos

Moving items

Molinos is located on the northern border of the Carlist territory. Its position between Lower Aragon and Maestrazgo meant that this town suffered the alternating influence of the two contenders in the conflict. This is the worst possible circumstance in a war, because the armies of both sides consider the inhabitants as enemies and their demands become much higher and the violence exerted on the population greater. Only its small size and its location on the margins of the main communication routes allowed it to survive the effects of the war.

Communications

The first Carlist war did not begin in Maestrazgo, but in Lower Aragon. It was the difficulty the rebels had in staying in the Lowlands that drove them into the mountains.

The multitude of parties that crossed this territory made it impossible for the liberal troops to go to all the places where they were informed of the Carlist presence.

A territory as rugged as the Maestrazgo mountain range was very difficult to control, taking into account that the villages were quite distant from each other.

In the irregular warfare carried out by the parties in the Maestrazgo, and also in the counter-guerrilla practices that the queen’s armies tried to carry out, information was very important.
