Parasol or macrolepiota

Macrolepiota procera (Scop.) Singer 1948

It appears in autumn in a wide variety of habitats: coniferous forests and their clearings; singly or in groups. Large mushroom, it develops as a “drumstick”. It presents a couple of exclusive characteristics to differentiate it from any other species: mobile double ring along the foot of brindled appearance. Collect open specimens of 15 to 20cm, or even larger. Gastronomically very versatile: grilled, battered or as a pizza base. Not to be confused with the genus lepiota,small mushroomsof similar appearance very toxic, some of them deadly.
