An officer closely linked to military education, he fought in Africa, Mexico, Cuba and Catalonia. His pronouncement in Sagunto in favor of Alfonso XII opened the Restoration. With his pressure on the Ebro, he contributed to encircle the Carlists of Maestrazgo, closing their escape route to Catalonia.
